The Revolution will Not be Televised It Will Be Social Networked #ows

And you thought Facebook was only for playing Mafia Wars. Earlier this year, no one thought the power of social network would have on the “Arab Spring” in the Middle East and North Africa and today the world wide occupy wall street movement.

From inviting everyone and their mom to a rally, to the use of keeping minute to minute updates on a march and documenting police clashes, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Livestream can get the revolution to you in every language from every country.

Revolutions have happened multiple times in the history of the world and technology always has an impact on the outcome. Like telegraphs and trains during the Bolshevik revolution, social network has turned into the spark that lights the fire. This time the fire will spread at a quicker rate then ever imagined. A rate that any marketing person would love for their viral video to have. A quick look at a worldwide timeline of revolutions, the amount of revolutions the world has had in the year 2011 is HALF the amount of revolutions the world had in the last decade.

As Gil Scott-Heron recorded in his 1970 album:

The revolution will not be televised, will not be televised,
will not be televised, will not be televised.
The revolution will be no re-run brothers;
The revolution will be live.
