<p><a href="http://7one8design.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Social-Media-management.png"><img src="http://7one8design.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Social-Media-management.png" alt="" title="Social-Media-management" width="384" height="370" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-4656" /></a><br />
<h8>Are you posting once a day, talking about random stuff, not looking at your traffic or not Facebook tagging or Twitter mentioning? Then you might be wasting your precious internet time.</h8></p>
<p><h8>In the beginning, </h8>the internet was updated periodically by webmasters, after myspace anyone with a keyboard updated the internet. So imagine today where 1 Billion people ( one seventh of the world&#8217;s population) is on Facebook. A lot of updating! So believe when I say that one post a day will certainly be covered up by all the other post zooming thru your activity stream. </p>
<p><h8>Based on your choice of social media drug,</h8> if your on a site based on post like Facebook or Google Plus, 3 times a day spread out is good in order to catch the attention of your audience. If its image based like Instagram or Tumblr, 10 to 25 times is actually realistic. And if your limited to 140 characters … well imagine how many other 140 characters tweets you have to compete with.</p>
<p><h8>Do the messages in your post seem a bit schizophrenic?</h8> Imagine how your message might sound! A focus consistent message is key to communicating successfully via social media. Your already competing with speed of online updates, every quick chance you get to create an impression you want to be stamping your message.</p>
<p><h8>What should be your message?</h8> Here is where analyzing your traffic is key. With Google Analytics or Facebook Insights you can see how your audience reacts to your messages. Its a never ending trail and error process so don&#8217;t be afraid to experimenting with your online message but do be flexible enough to change your message if the traffic starts decreasing. Look at it like your own free focus group.</p>
<p><h8>You don&#8217;t know what tagging or mentioning is?</h8> Then 50% of your social media efforts are going down the drain. We are all narcissistic, we all want free PR so we are all monitoring what ANYONE is saying bout us as well as others, hence social media. So in tagging and mentioning your subject matter, you not only give someone free PR but you will also make yourself visible to the online audience that follows your subject matter.</p>
<p><h8>So now that you know how to do social media correctly, go ahead and post your thoughts away!</h8></p>

<p><a href="http://7one8design.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/imagesOMG-is-that-me.jpg"><img src="http://7one8design.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/imagesOMG-is-that-me.jpg" alt="" title="imagesOMG-is-that-me" width="400" height="299" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-4610" /></a><br />
<h8>Ever get an email with all caps</h8> that made you feel like someone was screaming at you only to be calmed down by the happy face at the end of the sentence? In a world where majority of our communication comes to us digitally, the text on your screen can many times be misrepresented. What should you look out for and what should you use to your advantage?</p>
<p><h8>Emoticon</h8><br />
Emoticon&#8217;s have created a whole new language of communication…even an art form. But when pitching a client or submitting your resume, a smiley face will only get you deleted. Nevertheless just like a smile in a face to face communication goes far, the numerous Emoticons used today can be used as a tool for elevating the clarity of the tone of digital messages. Use wisely!</p>
<p><h8>Tagging &#038; Sharing</h8><br />
In a world where our whole life is being documented online, there are still people that like to be private. To each his own but when blasting out your daily dairy, be courteous of tagging by asking permission. For sharing, permission is also always the key! But sometimes you can&#8217;t reach the person you want to share their photo or story. Best thing is to always give credit when credit is due. </p>
<p><h8>Acronyms</h8><br />
Depends on when your using it, very similar to the Emoticons. Definitely the rise of abbreviations is due to social media and texting. Your either short on time or limited to 140 characters, Acronyms are a life saver. But when trying to communicate professionally, they can be a WTF! But just like shorthand was an essential part of secretarial training as well as being useful for journalists, Acronyms is an essential part in social media, a field thats growing rapidly!</p>
<p><h8>Never did I think the above etiquette rules would be a necessary conversation but</h8> when I read the other day that kids in kindergarten are tweeting as part of school work I said to myself OMG!</p>

<h8>One of the most frequent questions I get is how to copyright a logo?</h8> I try to be honest and explain both sides. The law and reality..</p>
<p><h8>Copyright literally means &#8220;the right to copy.&#8221;</h8> When you fill out a long online form on <a href="http://www.copyright.gov">www.copyright.gov</a> and pay fees from $35 to $1000 (or pay a lawyer 3 times more) and THEN wait for a unknowable amount of time, you will be the only person capable of copying your design. As the US Copyright office states in their mission they &#8220;promote creativity by administering
and sustaining an effective national copyright system&#8221;</p>
<p><h8>But what happens when copyright infringement happens?</h8> You have to go to court and this time you HAVE to pay a lawyer. It pretty much sucks for the small dog but what happens to two large companies like Gucci and Guess? </p>
<p><h8>You guessed it, who owns the G?</h8> In the words of the lawyers for Guess, &#8220;Guess sources its ideas from all sorts of brands. This process involved drawing inspiration from Gucci&#8217;s work, but not exclusively; That&#8217;s what design is&#8221; </p>
<p><h8>The lawyer used the courtrooms</h8> green-and-gold carpet as an example of inspiration where you can <a href="http://nymag.com/daily/fashion/2012/03/guess-vs-gucci-lawsuit-knockoff-court.html<br />
">&#8220;change the colors, tweak the pattern, and put it on a handbag.&#8221; </a> </p>
<p><h8>So where does that leave Copyright?</h8> I always recommend the poor man’s copyright where you certify mail yourself a copy of your own work and not open it. This is your evidence in court that the artwork in the closed envelope was created by you on a certain date certified by the US Postal service. But the US Copyright office says </p>
<p><h8>&#8220;There is no provision in the copyright law regarding any such type of protection, and it is not a substitute for registration.&#8221; </h8></p>
<p><h8>So is it worth copyrighting?</h8> In my opinion copyrighting is a legal reality that can be very unfair. </p>
