EXPERT DIY TIPS Why @DKNY Deserves to Win two ’12 Fashion 2.0 Awards

Yes, who knew there were awards for online media in Fashion! TRUE, the fashion industry I have to say, are always early adapters in online media and this past Third annual Fashion 2.0 Awards Feb 8th, blew my mind. Categories went from best App (Tiffany & Co. Engagement Ring Finder … like duh) to Visionary Award: Alexis Maybank and Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, Co-Founders of Gilt Groupe, that online designer clothing site for 60% off, another brilliant no-brainer.

But @DKNY received best Twitter and Blog. My immediate reaction is “…really…why?” So my know it all a** decides to check out the twitter page and the blog to be stand corrected by the following three points I observed:

– Its not the 380,648 followers but the actually substance of the DKNY “tweet-versations”. Never have I seen so much interactivity with a customer. Yes you always see sale here, discount there but on the @DKNY twitter feed, its all person to person conversation between the DKNY PR girl and all her customers … impressive!

– For the Blog the illustrations are such a welcome to this digital land that you forget its a tumblr site. The DKNY PR GIRL blog turns into a full site with Twitter Follow, FAQ and App Download along with a quick “fashion news perspective” widget in a TO DO list form on the sites sidebar.

– In exploring the FAQ’s I then found a link to MISS DKNY PR GIRLS “Top 10 Social Media Tips” and here I was floored. Check out Aliza Licht, the Senior Vice President of Global Communications at Donna Karan top 10 extremely frank and insightful tips for anyone and everyone that has a twitter account to a blog site.

From social media “real talk” to basic “etiquette”, Aliza’s perspective on social media completely hits the nail on top of the head of DKNY two well deserved Fashion 2.0 Awards. Definitely an amazing fashion brand with an equally great online presence.
